Truth: Scripture That Says “Not of Work” Means the Works of the Mosaic Law. Not Obedience to God.
The passage in Ephesians 2:8-9 that states that our salvation is not based on our works is talking about the rituals and sacrifices of the Mosaic Law. Paul is not talking about obedience to God’s commands. We must obey God with love and faith from the heart. We are to maintain the righteous and moral principles of the law through God’s grace (Titus 2:11-14). The Mosaic Law was never designed to purify the heart and purge our conscience. False doctrines that do not understand this concept, and teach that “not of works” means obedience, are promoting lawlessness.
