Evolutionary Thinking is Ruining the West

Look around the world. Are things getting better? Are people getting better? That is the story we are being fed. ‘Utopia is possible here on earth,’ people will say. Is that really what is happening?

Search drug use, violence, political unrest, marriage and the family, or religion and see for yourself. Drug use is astronomical, the nation is divided, the family is under attack and people want to drive God out of everything. A different story seems to be unfolding here. One can certainly make an argument that morally, socially, and intellectually the world is getting worse. So what is really going on? To find the answer, one must use wisdom. Wisdom is the application of knowledge, experience, and sound judgment.

You are Your Worldview

What is important to note is that there are two worldviews vying to take control of our hearts and minds. One worldview says the universe is created, ordered, and ruled by a supreme creator and another says random chances, billions of years of time, and single-celled organisms explain life.

Worldviews, such as evolutionary thinking, are lenses through which we see the world. Like tint on a pair of sunglasses—everything seems to have the same hue. It forces one to see everything, to filter everything they experience through a particular way of thinking.

At this juncture, an important question needs to be asked—which worldview is more reasonable to believe in? And what do these two worldviews say about the most important questions of our day? Where did we come from? Who are we? Why are we here? How should we live? Where are we going?

Evolution

Because there are so many different uses of this word, clarification is needed. The definition used in this article will pertain to macroevolution, “the belief that all life forms have descended from a common ancestor—the first one-celled creature—and all of this happened by natural processes without any intelligent intervention.”1

Creation

Einstein – according to his now proven theory of General Relativity – postulated that the universe was not eternal, but had a beginning. His calculations revealed that time, matter, and all space came into existence at the same time.

Since there was an absolute beginning to space, time and matter, it’s reasonable to conclude that the cause of the universe must be spaceless, timeless and immaterial. This cause must also be personal in order to choose to create, intelligent to create such a fine-tuned universe, and powerful to create out of nothing. A spaceless, timeless, immaterial, personal, intelligent, powerful Being is exactly what theists call “God.”1

Origins

Evolutionary thinking says that ‘nothing created everything’. Naturalistic processes can explain life. Because there is no supreme being to give our allegiance to, morality is whatever society decides it to be. And that truth is relative.

A Creationist claims that an uncaused cause created everything out of nothing. Christians call this uncaused cause God (or Yahweh in Hebrew). If this is the case, and He is powerful enough to do that, we should give our allegiance to Him. He knows what truth is, what good is, and what beauty is. Therefore truth and morality cannot be relative but absolute. And if that is the case, we have to answer to Him for every act of good and bad we do under the sun.

Identity

Evolutionary thinking says all organisms, from flies to giraffes to fish to humans, are all related. Survival of the fittest—only the strong and viable endure.

A Creationist says humanity is marked with the image of the Creator—Yahweh the God of the bible. We rule over the fish in the sea, animals on the land and birds of the air. We have a body and a soul and are set apart from the animals (Genesis 1-2).

Is There No Absolute Reality?

Evolutionary thinking says there is no absolute meaning to anything. All is random; there is no created order or purpose under the sun. Many find this worldview freeing because there is no accountability. People are told they can do whatever they want, whatever makes them happy. It is all about serving the self, seeking pleasure and striving for happiness.

A Creationist says that God’s eternal power and divine nature are clearly seen throughout the world and none are without excuse for believing in Him (Romans 1:25). He created everything perfectly at the beginning of time, but humanity allowed sin to enter into the world. Humanity was supposed to rule the created world with righteousness and goodness. We were viceroys on God’s behalf, created never to die. Instead, sin and death overcame the world and left it in darkness. The only way for humanity to return to its initial state of glory and communion with God was for God himself to become a man. Indeed he did, 2000 years ago Jesus Christ (both fully God and fully man) entered into his own creation to redeem it and restore its original glory.

No Morality?

Evolutionary thinking says there is no absolute truth. Humans are born good. Everyone can decide for themselves how they should act. We are told ‘it’s the survival of the fittest.’ So we step on the backs of others to get where we want to go. Life only has meaning if we attribute meaning to it. Society is the one who decides what is moral and what is not. There really is no difference between humans, animals, or anything else for that matter; learn more here.

A Creationist says truth is absolute. Human life is sacred and more valuable than pigs or apes. There is a Creator of all things and what He says goes. Since humanity allowed sin and death to enter the world, only God could repair such a big mess. And He did, through Jesus Christ His son. The Bible reveals that Jesus is both fully God and man – thus has the capability to forgive sin and reduce humanity. He was spoken about in the Hebrew Bible and fulfilled every one of the prophecies about the Messiah. He has the power to set humanity free from sin, death, and evil. Since He did that, He commissions humans to spread this Good News of salvation and eternal life to the whole world.

No Purpose, No Destiny!

Evolutionary thinking says there is no afterlife, 70-100 years, if we are lucky, is what we get. We are told to pursue pleasure and what makes us happy, existential nihilism at its best. The strongest survive; we must preserve ourselves at the expense of others.

A Creationist says there is an eternity. One either spent with the Creator of the Universe or without Him. He decides how we must live.

To be obedient to Him and His son Jesus Christ means peace with Him and eternity with Him. To be at odds with Him will result in the lack of blessing, promise, and peace with Him that the Bible explains is freely available to all who accept Jesus as Savior. We are to spread the Good News of Jesus wherever it is we go.

Conclusion

Not only is the theory of evolution not supported by science, but it is also harmful to the flourishing of society. Many evolutionary thinkers and scientists are also atheists (and professors in ‘renowned universities’)—those who believe God does not exist—or at best agnostics. As a result of this worldview, all stimuli are filtered through the presuppositions and pre-accepted worldviews of the naturalist-materialist philosophy of the individual, ruling out any possible alternate explanations for consideration.

What so many fail to realize, however, is that the belief in “science,” “atheism,” or anything else counter to Creation, is just that…a belief system. Better put, it is a faith system and so is evolutionary thinking.

This is so dangerous because young and impressionable minds are being fed this theory as fact and its implications extend out far greater the “realm of science”. Evolution is an attempt to ‘get rid of God,’ to show that religion is pointless. How silly of an attempt. Evolutionism and atheism are religions in and of themselves—they require faith (and blind faith at that because they are not supported by science) to be believed in.
